Suffrage Centennial
August 26, 2020 ~ August 26, 2021
Artists, performers, writers, activists, historians and modern day suffragists across the USA are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Nothing can stop us. Created by the National Women’s History Alliance, this astonishing document will make you proud!
This catalog was created by the National Women’s History Alliance to make more people aware of the women’s suffrage centennial efforts in each state and nationally.
These exciting State Centennial group websites offer a wide array of resources, new research, information on state history and local suffragists, calendars of events, curricula, links, and more.
Nearly half have stores and all offer information, educational materials, and historical background that make each site a rich and rewarding attraction. There are plenty of examples and new ideas here.
The NWHA makes no guarantees and makes no money from this catalog. It is offered as a contribution to the goal of re-imagining and rewriting our history to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of multicultural American women.

The Equal Rights Amendment
The Heart of Alice Paul
August 27, 1920 Alice Paul did not give up.
July 1, 1982 Zoe Nicholson did not give up.
Alice and Zoe have never given up on the ERA. Even though most women went back to their daily lives, Alice and Zoe carried on.
1920, the vote won and Alice Paul went on to earn 3 law degrees, paid off all suffrage debts and wrote the Equal Rights Amendment.
July, 1982, the ERA defeated and Zoe Nicholson got to work publishing her ERA diary, serving on the ERA Roundtable, and founding ERA Once and For All.
This is Zoe’s story. This is the story of the Equal Rights Amendment. This is Alice Paul reaching through the decades finishing her mosaic of Equality.
- Her love for Miss Paul lifts Alice out of invisibility.
- Her voice is so intimate, it feels like sitting with her in the rotunda.
- Her relentless activism inspires.
- Her demand for equality is contagious.
Activist and Artist, Zoe Nicholson tells the story of The Equal Rights Amendment, from Miss Paul’s first insight in 1906 to the May 29, 2018 ratification in Illinois.
Zoe sat in the eye of the political storm, on a folding chair in the Illinois rotunda fasting on water for the 37 days leading up to the defeat of the ERA. Inspired by Sonia Johnson and joined by 5 more women, they lobbied, they faced grave danger, they talked with opponents and supporters alike.
Here is the story of radical feminists and the unfinished business of Constitutional Equality. Now, more than ever it is apparent that nothing less will create lasting equality, equity, and representation.
Invite Zoe and her story to your group, organization, class or church. She will inform, inspire and take you on a journey you will never forget.
Ask for her proprietary slide show of rare pictures from the Illinois rotunda during the fast.

Tea With Alice and Me
The Intersecting Lives of Two ERA Militant Visionaries
Written and Performed by Zoe Nicholson. This is the story of the power that collects when women gather. It is, what Zoe calls, Applied History. Ladies, drawn together for tea, ventured from the parlor onto the street and saw their power explode. From the 5 ladies of 1848 who held a meeting in Seneca Falls to the millions who march all over the world, women together cannot be stopped.
Tea with Alice and Me is no history lesson, it is a call to action. Zoe has sifted through what works and how change occurs. This show is the long view of women’s culture as politic. It is never finished. It is dynamic. Zoe is constantly expanding it to include yesterday, today and tomorrow.
At the center of Zoe’s heart is the first person to organize a march down Pennsylvania Ave, Miss Alice Paul. Knowing this young Quaker woman who was arrested, served time and never rested in her 92 years, will invite you to celebrate Applied History, Applied Activism and honor the Mother of American Political Activism. When you put on a hat and march, you will know how that happened; Alice Paul.

“I felt transported into the world of Miss Alice Paul.
I imagined what it must have been like to be there,
fighting in the streets with Alice.”
Tea with Alice and Me is a solo show
that takes the audience to women’s tearooms and onto the street ~
Seneca, Selfridges, The National Women’s Party, Women’s Bookstores.
Of course it is really about a cup of revolution served up in nonviolent direct action.
From 1775 through today, Zoe takes you on her militant, revolutionary, feminist call to action. Hundreds of pictures and personal stories transport you to each time and place she describes.
Tea with Alice and Me is my heart song to Miss Paul.
My mission is to introduce you to the brilliant, strategic, relentless champion of EQUALITY.
She is my North Star, my teacher, my inspiration and I am committed to carry her as far as the winds allow. I am very happy in reaching so high, collating over 40 years of passion and setting hearts on fire. Zoe

A Few Remarks from the Audience
Zoe Nicholson’s front-line radical experience informs her presentation of history in a tour-de-force demonstration of why we ask students to understand the value of a purpose beyond themselves.
Distinguishing between radical and moderate courses of action, she humorously and graciously bestows the ethical decisions upon her audience as we confront the tasks challenging us as a society, as a nation, today.

Zoe transported the standing room only audience from one era to the next and back again, weaving the story of Alice Paul with her own. Two stories of militant visionaries, two women at two different times, with one shared intent: Equality.
You were simply brilliant.
Funny. Rich. Engaging. Inspiring.

Zoe’s performance was profoundly moving & empowering.
I felt transported into the world of Miss Alice Paul. I imagined what it must have been like to be there, fighting in the streets with Alice. It made me think hard about and be thankful for the great sacrifices of these activist women.

Tea with Alice and Me was a joy to attend! Alice Paul was brought to life for me as well as my teenage daughter. Zoe is a natural storyteller and I could have listened to her for hours as she clearly knows the facts about Alice Paul.
… dramatic, heartfelt and informative.
